THE internationally-acclaimed Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir (BDCC) has advanced to the finals in the 2018 MBC National Chorale Competitions after winning the semi-final rounds on December 5 under the Children’s Division.

The BDCC earned its ticket to the finals when it bested Junior St. Paul College Pasig Chorale and Koro del Pilar from Malolos, Bulacan on the second night of the semi-final round  held at the Aliw Theater, Manila.

The choral group performed three songs under 12 minutes, namely: a competition piece sang acapella; a novelty number; and one of three elective musical selections proposed by the choir from which the judges will select.

BDCC Conductor Virgina Llamas-Mendoza also received a token of appreciation during the brief ceremony after the competition.

Judges graded each contestant based on their musicality (tone quality, harmony and diction), presentation (dynamics, techniques, costume and choreography) and on their audience impact.

The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir, formed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez in 2015, will be competing with three other finalists at the grand showdown on December 8.

The choral contest is in two divisions: children’s choirs where the grand champion will receive P100,000, and the open category which comes with a P150,000 grand prize.

The MBC National Choral Competitions is a nationwide choral competition held yearly by The Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC). The competition serves as an avenue for choral groups from schools, churches, residential communities, offices and special interest groups in the country to showcase their voices and talents.
